Clinica San Lorenzo
The following are some pictures of the clinic.
The front entrances to the clinic.
The kitchen.
The sitting area off the kitchen. Jane has multiple boxes of supplies stored here.
My email station. The computer is hooked up to the phone line. Our connection is via a long distance call to Quito to the Internet service provider.
My bed with the mosquito netting in place.
The clinic building.
The albergue where the patients stayed.
Behind the albergue is the new ministry building. This is where the kid’s club and the women’s ministry meetings take place.
The algergue has been repainted and the entrance has been improved with cement tile and some landscaping.
Between cases Jane would move to her “dictation booth” to complete the chart. She has coverted a lot of the chart into the computer and this allows her to enter the data quicker and print a nice document for the chart.
The operating room.
Operating room. Jane is talking on the phone while we are awaiting another surgery.
Jane’s supply shelves.
These cabinets contain supplies and anesthesia medications and other medications for the operating room.
The autoclaves for sterilization of drapes and instruments.
The utility sink where we scrub for surgery and where the laundry is cleaned by hand before going into the washing machine.
Looking at the side of the clinic building toward the house where we stay. The cement structure is the cistern for fresh water.
Jane is soon to start construction on a new building to expand the clinic. This will sit behind the current clinic building and will be a major improvement in the facility. It will be 2 stories with a new operating room and several new consultation rooms. The current clinic building will then house a pharmacy and hopefully a laboratory as well as places for storage and equipment. There are several Fort Wayne physicians who have committed financially to make this building a reality for Jane. We were hoping that we could break ground while I was there so I could get some pictures; however, the details could not be worked out quick enough for that. Jane has a work team coming in November to help with the construction. I would hope her new building will be ready for use by the first of the year.
This is the site of the new building.
Drawing for the first floor of the building.
Second floor.
Jane and Angelita are talking with a family member of one of our patients.
Jorge and Angelita with Gonzalo and his grandson in the background. Gonzalo’s wife, Nancy, is our cook and building in the background is her kitchen.
Jorge is an optometrist and Angelita works with Jane in the operating room as well as helps with patients when surgery is not occurring.
Nancy’s kitchen.
Looking at the albergue from the porch of the house where we eat and sleep.
Gonzalo’s grandson. He really enjoys getting his picture taken. He kept after me all the time wanting me to take his picture.
Gonzalo and Angelita are listening to Jane as she talks with the team.
Maria Luisa sitting at her desk.
Jorge was leaning through the window grate.
Angelita’s granddaughter.
The heart of this ministry.
